Open Opportunities in Caracas
With around 4 million habitants, Caracas is the capital and most populated city in Venezuela. It is surrounded by the Avila, a mountain that reaches 2600 meters (7800 ft.).
In there, you can find the Humboldt Hotel, which is a perfect place for tourists to feel decades back into the past. The panoramic view is beautiful and the weather chilly and relaxing. If you like hiking you can also make a three to four-hour excursion, and return by cable car or walking, so you can feel indestructible.
Then, just one hour of driving away from Caracas you’ll find yourself in the caribbean beaches of La Guaira, where people go in weekends to relax and forget the daily stresses of life. In here everyone is equal, and they enjoy some beers, music and dancing in the coasts.
Caracas is also an impressively active cultural center. The Museum of Modern Art, is well known all over South America.
There, high quality works of artist from all over the world are exhibited, as part of 4,000-pieces collection of national and international artists, that is constantly shown in its eleven rooms. Moreover, other cultural landmarks of Venezuela, such as the National Art Gallery, the Fine Arts Museum, the Sciences Museum, the Teresa Carreño Theater and Los Galpones Art Center share this brisk metropolitan area.
Beyond that, what makes Caracas a particularly unique place to live your exchange experience is the always-vibrating and even quite chaotic energy and life style: there’s always something going on, from cultural expressions in theater and dancing, to political activities and manifestations. Here you can see a juxtaposition of rich and poor living, something not so much in harmony, and you’ll surely feel how tangible your impact will be in these communities.
There are three different offices of AIESEC in Caracas: Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), and Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV).
AIESEC in Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB)
This committee is located in the surrounding part of our Caracas, towards the North in Sartenejas, Miranda State. Something characteristic about this AIESEC entity is the family feeling they have among themselves: they consider one another as brothers and sisters, and always get together to share their experiences way beyond just the AIESEC work. It is this fraternal feeling what makes them so competitive during national events, where they always have a good performance. Therefore, if you want to be part of a committee where you can feel as one of them, this local committee might be the option for you!
AIESEC in Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB)
This committee is located in Montalbán, at the West of Caracas. The members of this entity are always looking for excellence in everything they do. As the motto of their university says, “Magis” means giving more and being committed to social action.
Whenever they have a trainee they treat him as part of the family and they include him in several activities that the campus facilitates. Their university is very oriented to social work and volunteering, for this reason it is common for trainees of UCAB to create bonds with the surrounding communities and work towards improving them. In a nutshell, they offer a complete experience of knowledge about Venezuelan reality and culture for the exchange participant who wishes to bet on Venezuela. If this rings a bell, AIESEC in UCAB is the right place for you!
AIESEC in Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV)
AIESEC in UCV was the first committee to start operations in Venezuela in 1958. It is located in Ciudad Universitaria – Los Símbolos, right in the Center of Caracas. This university has the biggest campus in the country, with more than 60,000 undergraduate students. However, due to the country’s political reasons it was closed. The committee reestablished its operations in 2012, and since then it has build unique connections in the campus and city to ensure they are impacting right where it is needed.
With plenty of members with huge love and commitment, this committee puts all their heart in everything they do, because they believe in a better Venezuela.
